Bret 779 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 I would guess that getting rid of that Marleau deal wouldn't be too difficult, but he does have a No Movement Clause. Maybe he'll waive it, but it's hard to say.

So Matthews's annual salary has gone up by a million and Marner's by almost three million? Is this a result of Nylander's or what is the deal?

Bret 779 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 I don't think Marner will be quite at 10 million with this years performance. Let's say 8x9. Matthews at 8x12. I think?Leivo, Lindholm, Kappy, Johnsson together are going to get paid a little bit, so maybe the idea would be to ship Hyman or Brown or one of those 4 off somewhere. Hainsey's 3 mil comes off the books, Gardiner's 4.05 comes off (and shouldn't be resigned, his metrics get worse every year so a long term deal is incredibly dumb, I would think).? That leaves Rielly, Zaitsev, Ozhiganov (RFA), Dermott (who should get Jake's money), Holl under contract. Rosen, Borgman, Sandin, Liljegren, Lindgren are all in the AHL. Mac 77 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 Matthews 12 x 8. Hoping he'll take a discount and take 11, but doubt it.? Marner 9.5 x 8.? Jake walks and maybe the Leafs move Connor Brown to open a couple mill.?
TMan 13 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 Disapointed that teams like the Oilers and Sabres have started the mess of paying their best players Cup winning money when they haven't done jack shit to deserve it yet. This is where Dubas now finds himself. In cap hell before even getting out of a first round. I don't know how he keeps the big 3 together without taking away other important parts of the team. Bret 779 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 You're kind of missing the point. If those teams don't pay those players whatever you consider "cup winning money" then someone else will.

I do think there a shot they both come in maybe $500-$750K less, but that would be if they decided to give a hometown discount. As RFA's, Edmonton and Buffalo had all the leverage...other teams weren't going to pay them as offer sheets are avoided like the plague.? I get that they wanted to lock them up long term as they can't really attract any sort of real UFA talent, but ya...this trend of going big after the ELC is going to create a big mess around the league. Exactly. McJesus and Eichel belonged to their respective teams. It wasn't as if another team could sign them without major compensation. They could have offered them a million less and probably would have been good enough. If not then they go thru what the Leafs just did witH Willy basically. Sign or sit. Krylian 1,332 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 Draisaitl was the deal that really fucked everything up.
TMan 13 Report post Posted December 2, 2018 Yes that was a boner move as well. I'll be surprised if Chiarelli makes it thru the season.
Jordan 907 Report post Posted December 3, 2018 Remember, the Oilers were going to pay McDavid a cap hit around $14-million, but they went back and knocked it down a bit after the fan backlash when the numbers were leaked.
