I totally forgot that Wheeler was that old already
  3. eeks! Paying $8.25m to a 38 year old in the final year.
  4. 2018 NHL Off-Season

Blake Wheeler gets 5 x $8.25 million from Jets.

  6. Leafs sign John Tavares

Man. Some of the changes this team has gone through. Unreal. I remember when Burke was tearing his hair out trying to get Tavares at the draft lol. Now Tavares joins the cast? I could almost feel how salty Burke was on July 1 haha. Unreal. I'm so stoked for this year, I've had my Tavares jersey since mid July.
  7. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

Me too. Definitely hope they can acquire someone more appealing than Merryweather. You're prob right about incentives. I'd imagine that's how the contract will shape up wherever he signs. Damn shame to lose him like that. He was such a huge deal in Toronto.
  8. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

I don't disagree with most of what you've said. I do think JD would turn it down though. His ego wouldn't allow him to sign, and I think bridges have been burned with the Jays. It sounds like JD is going to have some things to say about the Jays this offseason. I think he's going to get a multi year offer with a shit ton of incentives. Merryweather gives me no wood. Atkins had said that the player they're expecting to get will impact the Jays next season, so that doesn't really sounds like Merryweather. Hope it's someone more appealing.

  10. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

It depends on who signs him, how much he is signed for, etc. And he still has to turn down the QO which I don't think he would do. It doesn't make a lot of sense for him to try and land his last big contract after a year where he produced next to nothing. Let him play a year and produce, then trade him when his stock has returned. If it is in fact Merryweather, than they let him go for a player outside of Cleveland's top 30 prospects. A 26-year old pitcher who is struggling with triple-A hitters. That really can't be the best option...
  11. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

If he turns down the QO the Jays get 1 comp pick somewhere around 50th overall. Shatkins is looking for someone who is ready to help sooner than this. Merryweather is the rumored return.
  12. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

I don't understand why you don't extend JD a qualifying offer and let him play another year in Toronto. If he has a season he is capable of having, you can get a legit return for the guy next season. IF he declines the qualifying offer, you will be compensated with one or more draft picks. I can't help but believe Donaldson would accept the qualifying offer. It pays him very well and he gets a chance to play for his last big contract before retirement. Management traded him at his worst possible value because what, they're scared to pay him next season? Or scared that he won't produce?
  13. Fair point. Either way, they fucked up. At least they have a top 5 farm system, I guess.
  14. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

Shapiro's job is to convince Rogers that their plan to contend in '18 was a bad one. He wasn't able to do that. This organization will be feeling pain for a while.
  15. Rogers blocked them from trading him in the offseason and him missing most of the season was just bad luck. Cant blame them for that. Really sucks that Osuna and Donaldson both lost significant value. Just bad luck.
  16. 2018 NHL Off-Season

Having Melnyk as an owner couldn't have happened to a more deserving organization.
  17. 2018 NHL Off-Season

Time for the offseason to ramp back up soon. Hitting that window of a few weeks before camps start up. Time to get those last few contract-less RFAs signed, *cough* Nylander *cough*, and the other shoe has to drop sooner or later on the guys everyone expects to be with new teams prior to camp like Karlsson, Pacioretty, etc. Any predictions? I would really not be surprised at all if the Sens stick with their asinine idea to try to unload the Ryan salary with Karlsson rather than maximizing their return in assets. Which, would be a huge setback to the organization, but seems right in line with Melnyk's M.O.
  18. Yo boys! This "rookie showdown" seems to be the first things heating up this month in the world of Leafs hockey. Everyone knows they've done this previously, and it is a nice chance to try to see some of the prospects before full blown camp starts. It'll be our first chance to see picks like Sandin and SDA with any of the group, and get our next look at guys like Liljegren, Grundstrom, Bracco, Brooks, and Co. I am in hockey withdrawal pretty bad, so I will probably try to find a stream to watch the games when they're on. The schedule is down below, and here is a link to the SN article listing the rosters for each of the three teams. It looks like the breakdown by position for the Leafs players is: 17 F, 11 D, 2 G. So I would expect there to be some shuffling of rosters between the games on 9/7 and 9/8, with a handful of forwards and d-men to play in both games. SCHEDULE: September 7, 2018, 7:30 p.m. ET - Game No.1 Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators September 8, 2018, 3 p.m. ET - Game No. 2 Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs September 9, 2018, 3 p.m. ET - Game No. 3 Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
  19. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

JD and $2.7m go to Cleveland for a PTBNL. The player will be determined by the amount that JD is able to play it sounds like. The Jays are now the Leafs from '05-'16.
  20. Thanks for 2 great seasons and 2 season of management botching your rehab, Josh. MVP.
  21. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

    Granderson to the Brewers too.
  22. 2018 Toronto Blue Jays

Josh Donaldson traded to Cleveland. No word on the return, but this management team is basically going to end up getting $0.10 on the dollar for JD. They couldn't have fucked this up more if they tried.
  23. This whole summer has been great, but this was just icing on the cake. It is awesome confirmation of forward thinking management and emphasis on bringing in a variety of backgrounds and POVs. Remember a few months back, or even that period between Dubas getting promoted and Lou leaving? Everyone just had to say, "Well, we really don't know what goes on inside the management group and who is arguing for specific players, stats, or playing styles..." Well it became pretty obvious pretty quickly. I mean Lou freaking traded for Martin and signed Komarov - two players who couldn't make the fourth line on this roster by the end of last year.
  24. NBA players have way bigger egos and always look like they're angry about something on the court anyway.
  25. They care, depending on the source. But I'm sure it remains in good fun, and probably doesn't matter to the point where it fucks up their week. Look how much NBA players care about their 2k ratings. It matters lol.
  26. I'm eager as well. That's why I'm goofin around with this. However, these guys are human so I guarantee it bothers him to be rated lower than Marner. Remember Kessel at the All-Star game? That bugged him. They would never admit it, but it has to bug them a bit. Does it affect the negotiations? Not one bit.
  27. The players give zero shits about any of these rankings. They care about their teams winning, their own stats, and how that translates into their own salaries. ... And yes, I'm eager for hockey to return.
